POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking an EMT to join our HKC Long Island medical services team. The medical services team is responsible for providing first-aid for injuries and care for ill campers and staff that may occur throughout the camp day.

The medical services team plays an important role in creating a positive camp experience for campers and ensuring HKC can meet the needs of our user Agency Camps.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Provide routine first aid for injuries incurred during the camp day
  • Provide proper care for campers and staff who aren't feeling well
  • Maintain routine supplies and first aid equipment as needed to the health and medical needs of campers and staff
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records that adhere to state DOH regulations.
  • Complete incident report forms as needed
  • Communicate with camps on patient status; communicate with parents as needed.
  • Ensure proper precautions are taken to protect everyone concerned when a communicable disease exists or threatens
  • Implement medical plans and protocols that meet the goals and objectives of the camp and HKC

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • EMT certification
  • Current AED and CPR certification
  • 4-yr college degree

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experienced working with children
  • Experienced in first aid and emergency management services
  • Ability to life/assist campers and staff
  • Ability to read and follow direction on medication labels, health forms, physician orders and parent letters
  • Ability to communicate about camper health concerns

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Home to 14 independently run JCC summer day camps, the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, is a small Jewish non-profit, that manages and operates three facilities located in Long Island, Rockland County and Staten Island. Our mission is to enhance the camp experience and provide a safe environment for the campers and counselors who call our grounds home. On any given summer day we welcome more than 5000 campers and camp staff through our gates. As a seasonal organization, HKC hires 200+ seasonal workers to provide lifeguarding, swim instruction, first-aid care, maintenance, housekeeping and security to ensure we can carry out mission and meet the needs of the camps who camp at HKC.
